Director General of Meteorological Department Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that in view of the new possibility of cyclone in the Bay of Bengal around 17th and 18th of this month, more rains are expected in Odisha.
After this alert from the Meteorological Department, the Odisha government has asked all the district collectors to get ready to deal with the crisis situation. The Meteorological Department has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea off north-west and west-central Bay of Bengal and off Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal coasts, as the sea conditions are likely to remain rough during this period. Effect visible in Maharashtra
According to the warning, the effect of pressure building in Odisha has started showing in many parts of Maharashtra. It rained continuously for three-four hours in Pune on Sunday itself, causing problems to the people. On Monday also rain was reported in many cities.
Yellow alert for 9 districts of Kerala
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for nine districts of Kerala. The districts for which the department has issued an alert include Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. It has been raining in the hilly areas of the state for the last two days and the Kerala government has directed to continue surveillance in the area.
