An application was filed in a Bangladesh court on Sunday to register a case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others. Hasina and others are accused of genocide by firing indiscriminately at a rally in 2013. According to a report in the Dhaka Tribune newspaper, Bangladesh People’s Party (BPP) president Babul Sardar Chakhari has filed an application in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki-al-Farabi.
Babul Sardar Chakhari’s application to the Bangladesh court accused him of “mass murder” during a rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel on May 5, 2013. The court recorded the statement and said it would pass an order on the issue later.
Let us tell you that 76-year-old Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 and fled to India. There are 11 cases pending against her in Bangladesh. These include eight cases of murder, one of kidnapping and two cases of genocide.
More than 600 people have died in the violence so far
More than 230 people have been killed in incidents of violence that erupted across the country after the fall of the Hasina government in Bangladesh. The death toll has risen to more than 600 since July, when massive protests began by students against the controversial quota system in government jobs.
