Passengers’ lives were saved in Pakistan
New Delhi: Getting information about a plane hijacked at an altitude of 30,000 feet in the air. For those who travel by plane, this is like a nightmare coming true. But, a plane takes off from Delhi and the news of it being hijacked comes. Indian agencies get in a panic. Information is received that two terrorists entered the cockpit with pistols and took control of the plane. This plane was to travel from Delhi to Bombay (now Mumbai). Everyone was afraid of something untoward happening. But, nothing like that happened.

Actually, on 10 September 1976, at around 7.35 am, Indian Airlines’ Boeing-737 took off from Delhi’s Palam Airport. The plane was to land in Bombay (now Mumbai). Everything was normal in the plane. There was happiness on the faces of the passengers. Passengers sitting on the window seats were busy watching the clouds. The pilot made several announcements before and after the plane took off. The crew members were also busy with their work. Everything was normal in the plane. Suddenly two terrorists entered the cockpit. They had pistols in their hands. The passengers present in the plane were terrified. Even the crew members were not able to understand what they should do.
Pakistan agreed to help India
Meanwhile, ATC got the news of the plane being hijacked. Indian agencies had also become active. Everyone was worried about the safety of the passengers and crew members of the plane. Every option was also considered. Meanwhile, news came that the hijackers wanted to take the plane to Libya. Negotiations began with them. The pilots said that the plane was low on fuel. The hijackers pressured to take the plane to Karachi. Finally, the plane was landed in Lahore, Pakistan. Meanwhile, India sought help from the Pakistan government. The neighboring country also agreed to help India.
It is said that the Pakistani representatives kept the plane waiting by saying that it was night. During this time, good food and drink was arranged. Pakistan provided biryani and all kinds of food. Information related to this ‘dramatic hijacking’ came in many media reports. It was told that intoxicating drugs were mixed in the food, due to which the hijackers became unconscious. After this, the passengers and crew present in the plane were successfully rescued safely.
After all, why was this plane hijacked?
The hijackers present in the plane were arrested and the passengers as well as the crew were safely sent to India. The hijackers involved in this incident were released by Pakistan in January 1977 the next year. India had strongly protested against this. But, its protest was ignored.
