The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday sent a legal notice to the makers of actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency for misrepresenting the character and history of Sikhs.It said radical Sikh preacher Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and no other person from the Sikh community has ever demanded Khalistan.The film is based on the life of former prime minister Indira Gandhi during whose rule Emergency was imposed in India in 1975.
Kangana Ranaut is playing the role of Indira Gandhi in this biographical film. The trailer of the film was released on August 14 and the film is expected to release on September 6. The notice sent by SGPC legal advisor Advocate Amanbir Singh Siali has asked the filmmakers to remove scenes depicting anti-Sikh sentiments from the film. Along with removing the trailer from public and social media platforms, a written apology has also been demanded from the Sikh community.
The SGPC said, “Scenes have been shown in which some characters in Sikh attire are shown shooting at people with assault rifles.” The notice said that there is no evidence or record that proves that Bhindranwale ever said such words to anyone. The SGPC has said in the notice that the film will prove to be a means of hurting Sikh sentiments and giving wrong teachings about Sikhism. The notice said that the film shows the dark days of the history of Sikhism.
There was also uproar over the statement given regarding farmers
Earlier, politics over Kangana Ranaut’s recent anti-farmer remarks remained heated on the second day on Tuesday. While Aam Aadmi Party protested in many cities of Haryana over Kangana’s controversial statement on the farmers’ movement, Congress attacked her. Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh has attacked Kangana’s remarks. He said, the statement given by Kangana reflects her intellectual bankruptcy. Singh said, the statements made by Kangana on the farmers and the possibility of China and America’s involvement in the farmers’ movement. This is unfortunate. At the same time, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said in a post on ‘X’ that targeting Kangana, she hoped that she would apologize for her remarks and the BJP would regret it.
Countrywide demonstration of farmers on 31st
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has asked Kangana Ranaut to publicly apologize for her statement. He told reporters that it is not enough for the BJP to simply distance itself from the actress’ statement, as she is also a party MP. The BJP should take strict action against Kangana. Pandher said, farmers will hold a nationwide protest on August 31 in protest against Kangana’s statement.

Kangana Ranaut had said that in the name of the farmers’ movement, miscreants were spreading violence. Rapes and murders were happening there.
