The helicopter of the country’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar made an emergency landing in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Due to bad weather, his helicopter was landed at Ralam in Munsiyari. State Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande was also present with him during this period. This helicopter was going from Pithoragarh towards Milam. Then the plan was to go from Milam to Nanda Devi Base Camp for trekking. Meanwhile, this incident happened at 1 pm due to bad weather. DM spoke to CEC, he is safe and well. The incident occurred at 1 pm due to bad weather.

Let us tell you that Rajiv Kumar is the 25th Chief Election Commissioner of the country. He assumed charge on 15 May 2022 and will hold the post till 18 February 2025. Rajeev Kumar, a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, has held many important responsibilities in his long administrative career.

The tenure of Rajiv Kumar, born on February 19, 1960, will end in February 2025. He worked in administrative services for 36 years. Apart from many ministries of the Centre, he also served for a long time in his Bihar-Jharkhand cadre. Rajeev Kumar has also done LLB, PGDM and MA in Public Policy along with B.Sc. Apart from the elections for the post of President and Vice President, 2024 Lok Sabha elections and several assembly elections were held during Kumar’s tenure. Kumar was the chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) when he was appointed Election Commissioner. He took over as Election Commissioner on September 1, 2020 after the resignation of the then Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa.

Kumar, a 1984 batch Bihar/Jharkhand cadre of the Indian Administrative Service, retired in February 2020. As per the rules, the tenure of the Election Commissioner is for 6 years or till the age of 65 years (whichever is earlier). Since Kumar was born in February 1960, his tenure is till 2025.
