Big relief to former NDTV director Prannoy Roy, CBI closed the case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday closed the case registered in 2017 against former NDTV directors and promoters Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy due to lack of evidence. He is accused of intentionally causing a loss of more than Rs 48 crore to ICICI Bank. The CBI had in 2017 registered a case against Roy, a private company and others for allegedly causing loss to a private bank. The case pertains to the alleged default of Rs 48 crore on a bank loan taken by Roy from ICICI Bank in 2009.

According to the CBI FIR, NDTV’s Prannoy Roy defaulted on the loan taken for a company called RRPR Holdings Private Limited. After the CBI case, the Enforcement Directorate also registered a case against Roy in this matter.

The CBI had filed the FIR in 2017 based on a complaint by Sanjay Dutt of Quantum Securities Ltd, which alleged that Roy-linked company RRPR Holdings Pvt Ltd had accepted Rs 500 crore from India Bulls Pvt Ltd to acquire a 20 per cent stake in NDTV. Had taken a loan of Rs crore. The complaint also alleged that Roy had pledged his entire shareholding for the loan without informing SEBI or the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
