‘BJP brazenly promotes itself’: Congress criticizes BJP for lotus in G20 logo – Fast Hindi News

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday criticized the BJP-led central government for choosing the lotus, which is also the symbol of the saffron party, as the official logo of India’s G20 presidency.

Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said: India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had rejected a proposal to make the party’s official flag the national flag, but “the BJP will not lose any opportunity to shamelessly promote itself.”

The attack by the opposition party comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the logo, theme and website for the group’s upcoming Presidential post of India.

Responding to the criticism, BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla told that Goddess Lakshmi is also seated on a lotus flower. Will you remove the lotus in the name of Kamal Nath? Rajiv (Gandhi) also means lotus. Hope you don’t see any agenda there,” Poonawalla said.

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri also hit back at the Congress leader, saying: Lotus was declared the national flower by the then Congress government in 1950 and Ramesh was born in 1954.

“God only knows why the Congress party chooses to defame and undermine every national symbol while it is desperate to ‘jodo’ (unify) itself,” Puri said.

The minister said that Congress leaders should listen carefully to Modi as to why the lotus is part of the G20 people.

“It is a symbol of India’s ancient heritage, belief and thought – a symbol of hope in such difficult times. Lord Buddha’s message for freedom from war, Mahatma Gandhi’s solution in the face of violence,” Puri said along with a video of PM Modi’s similar remarks.

PM Modi unveils India’s G20 Presidency logo

PM Modi on Tuesday unveiled the logo and theme – “Vasudhaiv Kutumb-Kam” or “One Earth One Family One Future”, and the website of India’s G20 Presidency.

In his virtual address, PM Modi said: I congratulate the countrymen on the historic occasion of India’s G20 Presidency. ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ is a symbol of India’s compassion towards the world. The lotus depicts India’s cultural heritage and belief in bringing the world together.

“The lotus symbol in the G20 logo represents hope in these times. No matter how many adverse circumstances, the lotus keeps on blooming.

India will assume the presidency of the G20 from the current President of Indonesia on 1 December.

The G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, representing approximately 85 percent of global GDP, more than 75 percent of global trade and nearly two-thirds of the world’s population.
