Bengaluru: Police has arrested BJP MLA Munirathna from Raj Rajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru, Karnataka from Kolar district. Bengaluru police arrested him with the help of Kolar police. Yesterday, two contractors of Bengaluru Mahanagara Corporation had filed a case against him accusing him of threatening to kill them, taking bribe and using abusive caste-related language. These contractors also released an alleged audio of Munirathna in which he can be heard abusing and threatening them.
BJP MLA called the action politically motivated
According to the information, Bengaluru police registered two FIRs against the BJP MLA. After the case was registered, Munirathna quietly went from Bengaluru to Kolar. The police team searched for him at different places in Bengaluru but he was not found. According to the police, his location was traced in Mulbagal, Kolar at 4:30 pm today. The police team reached there and arrested Munirathna. He will be brought to Bengaluru for further interrogation. However, Munirathna said that this action was motivated by political malice and said that he would fight a legal battle.
A case was filed against four people including the MLA
The police had registered an FIR against four persons including Munirathna. The FIR names BJP MLA Munirathna, his aide VG Kumar, his security officer Abhishek and another accused Vasantha Kumar. Contractor Chelvaraju had released an audio clip during a press conference, claiming that Munirathna had harassed him for bribe.
Security tightened outside Munirathna’s house
Meanwhile, the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) has objected to the use of casteist slurs against the contractor and plans to stage a protest outside Munirathna’s house in Bengaluru. The police have tightened security outside and around Munirathna’s house, erected barricades and closed some roads as a precautionary measure.
