BJP MLA claims demand for separate state in western part of Bengal is increasing

Kolkata. A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator has stoked a controversy by claiming that the western parts of West Bengal have been discriminated against for years and the demand for a separate state has gained momentum. Onda MLA Amar Sakha can be heard in a video purportedly saying that if the BJP does well in the panchayat polls, he will take up the issue of backward areas in the development of Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram and West Medinipur districts and Will give voice to the sentiments of “sons of the soil”.

‘PTI-Bhasha’ could not independently verify this video. Earlier, BJP leaders, including some Union ministers, had claimed that North Bengal and the western part of the state were lagging behind on the development front. At the same time, reacting to the comment, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that the BJP MLA’s comments reveal the BJP’s “conspiracy to divide West Bengal into many parts”.

On the other hand, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari claimed on Sunday that the biggest dacoit of Bengal would be arrested in December. Addressing a meeting at Kanthi in his home district of East Medinipur, Suvendu said without naming anyone that in December the biggest dacoit of Bengal would be caught and behind bars. Apart from this, he said that after being caught, that dacoit will have to account for each and every penny looted in various schemes of the Center.
