Gujarat Result 2022: The people of the Patidar community have always played a decisive role in the politics of Gujarat. This time BJP has also got strong support from the Patidar community in Gujarat. For this reason, BJP has won more than 50 Patidar dominated seats.
People of this community have influence on 70 out of 182 seats in Gujarat. The population of Patidar community is more than 20 percent in 52 seats here.
Patidar vote decisive in South Gujarat and Saurashtra
In most of the seats in South Gujarat and Saurashtra, the victory or defeat is decided by the votes of the people of the Patidar community. People of the Patidar community in Gujarat are divided into Leuva Patel and Kadva Patel sub-castes. Gujarat has 70 percent Leuva Patel and 30 percent Kadva Patel. Leuva Patel is more in the areas of Saurashtra and Kutch. The population of people of this community is considerable in Rajkot, Jamnagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Surendranagar districts. Leuva Patel is a sub-caste of the Patidar community. Apart from 11 districts of Saurashtra, people of Patidar community have influence in Surat also.
BJP’s bumper victory in Saurashtra
This time BJP has won 47 out of 54 seats in Saurashtra-Kutch. On the other hand, Congress has been able to win only 3 seats. Aam Aadmi Party has got 4 seats here. In the last assembly elections, the BJP had to suffer huge losses in the areas of Saurashtra due to the Patidar agitation. Here BJP could get only 23 seats. The Congress had managed to win 30 seats last time. Due to the Patidar movement, BJP had to suffer political losses in these areas. In the 2012 elections, the BJP was able to win 35 seats in this region.
Patidar angry with BJP in last election
The Patidar community was considered the traditional vote bank of the BJP. In 2017, the BJP had to bear the brunt of the Patidar agitation. The BJP had to face the displeasure of this community last time due to the movement demanding reservation for the backward Patidar community. Youth leader Hardik Patel was leading this movement. In the 2017 elections, Hardik Patel could not contest the elections due to his young age. Although he openly helped the Congress. Later in 2019, he also formally joined the Congress.
BJP succeeded in getting Patidar vote
This time BJP worked on a special strategy to persuade the Patidar people. This time the BJP fielded 41 candidates from the Patidar community. The situation became such that in June 2022, Hardik Patel left the Congress and joined the BJP. This time Hardik Patel himself was contesting from BJP. BJP’s Hardik Patel defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate by a margin of more than 50 thousand in Viramgam seat of Ahmedabad district.
BJP gave chance to new faces in Saurashtra
BJP gave a chance to most of the new faces to handle the political equation of Saurashtra. Last time BJP had to face defeat in many seats of Saurashtra with a very small margin. Last time, BJP was defeated by only 786 votes in Dang, but this time BJP’s Vijaybhai Rameshbhai Patel has defeated Mukesh Bhai of Congress by a margin of about 20 thousand. Similarly, BJP had lost the Kaprada seat by just 170 votes last time. But this time BJP’s Jitu Bhai Chowdhary wrested this seat from Congress with a huge margin. In Saurashtra, the BJP also placed bets on leaders like Kunwarjibhai Bavaliya who left the Congress. Kunwarjibhai Bavaliya also won the Jasdan seat. The ticket of 4 sitting MLAs from Rajkot coming in this area was cut off. The result of this is that this time BJP has captured all the 8 seats in Rajkot.
BJP wins 19 out of 21 seats in Ahmedabad
By winning all the 16 seats in Surat, the BJP has maintained its old dominance here. In Surat, the people of the Patidar community are considered to have a good influence. BJP has captured 19 out of 21 seats in Ahmedabad. There are at least five such seats in Ahmedabad, on which the votes of the Patidar community prove to be decisive. These are Ghatlodiya, Sabarmati, Maninagar, Nikol and Naroda. BJP has won all these seats. BJP managed to win 33 out of 35 seats in South Gujarat.
BJP also got full support of tribals
BJP has also got a lot of support from tribals this time in Gujarat. Earlier, tribals were considered as the traditional vote bank of Congress. According to the 2011 census, the number of tribals in Gujarat is more than 89 lakhs. This is about 15 percent of the total population of Gujarat. A large population of tribals lives in Banaskantha, Ambaji, Dahod, Panchmahal, Chhota Udaipur and Narmada districts. Here 27 seats are reserved for tribals.
Till now BJP had to struggle in tribal areas. In 2017, the ruling party BJP had won only 9 of these seats. The Congress had managed to win 15 of these seats last time. This time BJP has won 23 seats. It is clear from the historic victory that this time BJP has got the support of every community in Gujarat. Be it Dalit or Muslim community. Everyone has reposed faith in BJP.
