56 percent people agreed – Braj Bhushan Sharan Singh should be arrested soon
One of the questions asked during the survey was whether you support the demand of the wrestlers to arrest Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh even before the completion of the investigation? Close to 56 per cent of the total respondents answered yes, while only 27 per cent disagreed with arresting them. Across party lines, nearly two-thirds of opposition supporters agree with the demand, while more than 43 percent of NDA supporters also agree with the demand.
The matter is in the Supreme Court
Several wrestlers, including Asian, Commonwealth and Olympic medalists such as Vignesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, had initially made serious allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh in January this year. The Sports Ministry had constituted a committee to probe the allegations. Now the Supreme Court is also monitoring this matter. After a lull, the protests have intensified since April. The protesters are demanding the immediate arrest of wrestler Brij Bhushan Singh, who claims that he is being framed on false charges.
A large number of opposition parties and civil society groups have supported the wrestlers since they resumed their protest in April against the inaction of the authorities at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He was arrested on 28 May while marching towards the new Parliament House when the Parliament House was formally inaugurated. He has also been removed from Jantar Mantar.
