India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah wants to become a captain. He recently said that bowlers are perfect to lead. He reminded of the success of former legends Kapil Dev, Wasim Akram as captain. He also mentioned fast bowler Pat Cummins. Cummins is currently the captain of Australia’s ODI and Test team. Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has reacted to Bumrah’s statement. He said that Bumrah should not be fond of captaincy like Babar Azam. Let us tell you that Babar is in command of Pakistan’s limited overs team. However, Basit made a big prediction saying that Bumrah could become the captain next year.
‘Should focus on bowling’
Basit said on his YouTube channel, “In my view, Bumrah’s statement is like Babar’s hobby of captaincy. Bumrah should not be fond of captaincy. He should focus on the level of great bowler he is. He mentioned Kapil Dev and Wasim Akram, who captained. Actually, Kapil and Wasim became all-rounders, then they succeeded in captaincy. When they came to the team as bowlers, they did not become captains. This is the difference between bowler and all-rounder. There are very few fast bowlers who are good captains or coaches. My best wishes to Bumrah. Maybe he will become captain after ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Some things are out of control… Bumrah spoke openly about Hardik’s ‘rudeness’
‘Bowlers work hard’
It is worth noting that Bumrah said in a conversation with the Indian Express, “Bowlers have to work hard and they don’t have to hide behind the bat, they don’t have to hide behind a flat wicket. We are always on target. When we lose a game, usually the bowlers are blamed. So it is a tough job. We have seen Pat Cummins perform really well. When I was a kid, I saw Wasim Akram and Waqar Younus as captains. Kapil Dev has won us the World Cup. Imran Khan has won the World Cup for Pakistan. So bowlers are sensible.”

‘The country loves batsmen’
He further said, “I understand that our country loves big batsmen and that is right, but for me, bowlers take the game forward. I come from a generation where Test cricket was shown more on television and for me, till date, it is the biggest format, because I feel that if I do well in it, all other formats will take care of themselves. ” Bumrah has captained the Indian team in one Test and two T20 Internationals.
