Called a sex worker to the flat, killed her after a dispute over money; chopped the body into pieces and stuffed it in a suitcase

A woman’s badly mutilated body was found in a suitcase near a construction site in Thoraipakkam, a southern suburb of Chennai, creating a stir. The police have arrested a 23-year-old engineering graduate in this case. The arrested youth has confessed to the murder before the police. According to the police, the deceased woman was 35 years old and hailed from Madavuram, which is located in the northern area of Chennai. The woman was a sex worker, and her mutilated body parts were found in a suitcase soaked in blood.

According to the Indian Express report, the arrested youth has been identified as M. Manikandan, a native of Sivagangai district and was recently living alone in a rented flat in Thoraipakkam. Investigation into the incident began after the woman’s brother filed a missing person report and helped the police track her last location.

According to preliminary investigations, Manikandan contacted the woman through a person and the two met at Manikandan’s flat in Thoraipakkam on Tuesday night when his family was out of town. Police say the dispute over money turned violent. According to police, Manikandan claimed he lost his temper following an argument over the extra payment and attacked the woman with a hammer. He allegedly killed the woman and then chopped off her body parts and stuffed them in a newly purchased suitcase in an attempt to hide the body.

Police said Manikandan’s family was scheduled to return on Friday but suddenly decided to return on Thursday. Panicked over his family’s sudden return, Manikandan bought a suitcase on Wednesday and early Thursday morning, he dumped the suitcase near a construction site, which was located 200-300 metres from his house.

Police said the woman had left to meet Manikandan on Tuesday night, but when she did not return, her brother got worried. He tried to contact the woman, but her phone was switched off. He then tracked the woman’s location using the “Find My Device” feature, which was found in Thoraipakkam. He then approached the police for help and lodged a missing person complaint.

On Thursday morning, when a passerby saw a suitcase stained with blood, the police were informed. When the police reached the spot and opened the suitcase, the woman’s body was found inside it. Later, the woman’s brother was called to identify the body, who confirmed it to be hers. While examining the CCTV footage, the police saw Manikandan dragging a heavy suitcase. The neighbours identified Manikandan, which made it easier for the police to arrest him.
