The Election Commission, in an affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, said the Center was the appropriate party to decide the request made in the petition filed by the Congress leader. The commission clearly told the Supreme Court that it has no role in the petition to bar disqualified MPs under the anti-defection law from contesting by-elections for the remainder of their terms.
