New Delhi. The CBI on Tuesday arrested Vijay Nair, a close aide of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, as the first arrest in Delhi’s liquor policy case. According to CBI sources, his role has come in factionalism and conspiracy with selected licensees. He was arrested after he did not ‘cooperate’ in the interrogation. Vijay Nair was called for questioning at the CBI Headquarters. Vijay Nair is the number 5 accused in the CBI FIR. Significantly, Manish Sisodia is also an accused in the same case.
The Aam Aadmi Party has also reacted to Nair’s arrest. Spokesperson Akshay Marathe says that Vijay Nair was the communication in-charge in the party for some time and now he is being implicated in a fake case. This is purely political vendetta as Nair was strategizing for the Gujarat elections. In fact, Nair’s premises were raided by ED. He is allegedly being told as the mastermind of this entire scam. A political uproar has started over this arrest. BJP leader Kapil Mishra alleges that every truth will come out with this arrest and the guilty of liquor scam will not be able to escape. Kapil Mishra claims that Nair is related to Chief Minister Kejriwal and others. From liquor scam to illegal transactions in Punjab, Nair used to do all the work.
Vijay Nair is the former CEO of Entertainment and Event Management Company.
Vijay Nair is said to be the former CEO of an entertainment and event management company based in Mumbai. He has close ties with many stand-up comedians and companies associated with them. He reportedly worked as a ‘part time volunteer’ for AAP in 2019. Earlier in August, Nair had issued a statement saying that he had not fled the country, he was abroad for “personal” work. Here, the CBI in its FIR has alleged that the accused licensees and businessmen, including Nair, were actively involved in irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the policy.
