CBI raids in Army campus, three MES officers arrested for taking bribe of one lakh rupees

New Delhi: CBI has arrested three officers of Military Engineer Services (MES), Bhopal in connection with an alleged bribe of Rs 1.10 lakh. Officials gave this information on Thursday. Officials said that two garrison engineers – J.J. John Kennedy and RS Yadav and Junior Administrative Assistant Arun Singh have been arrested.

A CBI spokesperson said these officers had demanded bribe from a contractor despite his work being found to be in order and Rs 7.93 lakh was allegedly recovered from him. According to the spokesperson, “When the complainant contacted the Garrison Engineer (GE) regarding the said recovery, he was instructed to discuss the matter with Kennedy and Yadav.” He had demanded a bribe of around Rs 1,15,000 (three per cent of the tender price). The complainant was also told that if the bribe was not paid, recovery would be made from him.

He said the agency laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.10 lakh from the complainant. According to the spokesperson, ‘Searchs were conducted at the office and residential premises of the said accused as well as at GE, Bhopal, from where incriminating documents have been recovered. Among other things, cash amounting to Rs 5.47 lakh was recovered from Kennedy’s premises. Besides, searches are on at the premises of one of the accused in Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu).’
