Center launches two big schemes worth Rs 1 lakh crore, focus will be on increasing farmers’ income

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishonnati Yojana (KY) scheme. A total expenditure of Rs 1,01,321.61 crore will be incurred on these schemes. According to the Cabinet, the PM-Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana aims to encourage sustainable agriculture, while under the Krishonnati Yojana, self-reliance will be achieved by ensuring food security. Both these schemes will be implemented as an umbrella scheme under which all the centrally sponsored schemes of the Ministry of Agriculture will be restructured.

The government said that this decision has been taken by the Central Government to strengthen the agriculture sector and increase the income of farmers. These schemes aim to help in sustainability, innovation and adoption of modern technologies in the agriculture sector. This will also strengthen food security in the country, which will boost agricultural production in the coming years.

There are many important initiatives covered under Pradhan Mantri-Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, such as enhancing soil health and fertility, rain-fed area development, traditional agricultural development scheme, crop residue management and more crops per drop among many other programmes. Along with this, Krishonnati Yojana includes schemes like National Food Security and Nutrition Mission, National Mission for Edible Oils and Digital Agriculture Mission.

According to the press briefing, in this meeting, plans have been made keeping in mind the urgent challenges and opportunities of the agriculture sector, in which emphasis has been laid on nutritional security, climate resilience, digital market and better infrastructure. Now State Governments can approve the Annual Action Plan in one go, which will speed up the implementation process.

Rs 10,103 crore approved for National Mission on Edible Oils

Apart from this, the Union Cabinet has also approved the National Edible Oils-Oilseeds Mission to promote the production of edible oils. Rs 10,103 crore will be spent on this mission for six years, which will run till financial year 2031. The objective of this scheme is to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of edible oils in the country, so that dependence on imports can be reduced.
