Central forces are not able to control the situation, give command to CM; BJP MLA’s demand to Amit Shah amid Manipur violence

Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate action against the ongoing violence in the state after the fresh attacks in West Imphal. He has expressed serious concern over the continuing violence despite the presence of central forces and urged the central government to remove them from Manipur if their presence is not effective.

In a letter to Amit Shah, the BJP MLA said, “The presence of around 60,000 central forces in Manipur appears to be failing to restore peace. If these forces are merely mute spectators, it is better to remove them and hand over the responsibility of security to the state government under the Chief Minister.”

Emo Singh has criticised the central forces for their inability to stop the violence being perpetrated by illegal armed militants even after 15-16 months of unrest. He suggested that the unified command should be handed over to the state government so that the chief minister can implement measures as per law to restore peace.

“We appreciate the removal of some uncooperative units, but if central forces cannot bring stability then state forces should be allowed to take over,” he wrote in the letter.

He stressed the need for local governance in security to bring lasting peace and address the root causes of conflict.
