New Delhi: The mayor election of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation remains in discussion. The Supreme Court had put a question mark on the way voting and results were declared to elect the mayor. Along with this, the court had also banned the meetings of the corporation. Along with this, many questions were also raised on the election officer. Hearing is to be held in this matter today. Earlier on Sunday, newly appointed Mayor Manoj Sonkar resigned from his post.
Before the hearing in the court, on Sunday, three councilors of Aam Aadmi Party joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Three AAP councilors Neha Musawat, Gurcharan Kala and Poonam Devi joined BJP. All three councilors said that they have joined BJP after being impressed by the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On Sunday, BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde and former state president Arun Sood gave party membership to the three councilors.
This is murder of democracy – Supreme Court
During the last hearing in this case, the Supreme Court said that it is clear that the returning officer has mutilated the ballot papers. During the hearing, the Supreme Court said about the Returning Officer – “Does he conduct elections like this? This is a mockery of democracy. This is the murder of democracy. We are shocked. This man should be prosecuted. Is this the returning officer? Is this the behavior of an officer?”
What is the whole matter?
Actually, BJP had won the mayor’s election held in Chandigarh. Regarding which Aam Aadmi Party had alleged that BJP had won the elections dishonestly. There was a lot of uproar regarding this matter and there were statements from both the parties. Aam Aadmi Party had also started a fast outside the Municipal Corporation office.
