New Delhi: India on Thursday rejected China’s objection to a military exercise with the US in Uttarakhand in October, saying that it does not understand what the third party means.
India’s response comes at a time when China’s Defense Ministry said on Thursday that it completely opposes any third party interference on the border issue with India. China also said that it expects India to abide by bilateral agreements not to conduct military exercises along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The 18th edition of Yudh Abhyas is scheduled from October 14 to 31 at Auli in Uttarakhand. When asked about this, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told reporters, “I do not understand what is the meaning of mentioning third party.
It is worth mentioning that Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense of China, spoke about the news about the recent joint exercises of US and Indian special forces in the southern foothills of the Himalayas and their plans for a joint military exercise codenamed ‘Maneuver’. There was a third party comment on the question asked.
Tan said, “We strongly oppose the interference of any third party on the Sino-India border issue.” Military cooperation on activities should not target any third party, but should help maintain regional peace and stability.
