860 feet long and about 197 feet wide, this is the first aircraft carrier on which India can simultaneously house 30 fighter aircraft.
India needs 57 double-engined fighter jets for its two aircraft carriers
The F18 Block III Super Hornet is the latest highly capable, economical and advanced fighter aircraft in the US Navy inventory
New Delhi, There has been a worldwide competition to sell the fighter aircraft to India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant weighing 45,000 tonnes. France and America are also involved in this race, two of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft manufacturer countries. At present, only Russian fighter aircraft MiG-29 has been given place in the powerful INS Vikrant with the capacity to hold 30 fighter aircraft and helicopters. According to an AFP news report, the American company Boeing and Rafale maker Dassault are currently leading the race.
India will take 57 fighter aircraft of two engines
India needs 57 double-engined fighter jets for its two aircraft carriers. In view of such a huge demand, both the countries making fifth generation aircraft are waiting for a big deal with India. Earlier, the Indian Air Force had also purchased 45 MiG-29 fighter aircraft from Russia. However, one problem with this Russian aircraft is that the MiG-29 is a large aircraft which is quite challenging to land on deck. Also, the problem of engine failure in these aircraft is becoming quite common.
In May this year, Boeing sent two F-18s to India’s naval base to demonstrate the capability of the jet. The F18 Block III Super Hornet is the latest highly capable, economical and advanced fighter aircraft in the US Navy inventory. Boeing has been describing the Super Hornet as the backbone of the US Navy Carrier Air Wing.
Like Boeing, France also sent a naval version of its Rafale aircraft for testing in June last year and again in Goa in January. The company says that its aircraft meets all the requirements of the Indian Navy. Rafale is an advanced generation fighter aircraft, which the Indian Army has already purchased for the Air Force.
