West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced to contest alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This decision of Mamta is being considered as a huge blow for the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). Meanwhile, after this announcement by Mamata, the statement of Congress, a party included in INDIA Alliance, has come out. Congress said that no opposition alliance can imagine the existence of INDIA without West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.

What did Jairam Ramesh say about Mamta?

During the Congress’ ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh told reporters in Assam’s North Salmara that Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress is an ‘important pillar’ of the opposition alliance. He said, “No one can imagine the ‘INDIA’ alliance without Mamata ji. The INDIA alliance will contest the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal and all (partners) will participate.” Ramesh said, “Mamata Banerjee has said that it is the main responsibility of all of us to defeat BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.”

Announced to contest elections alone in Bengal

Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that her party has decided to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone in the state. “I had given them (Congress) a proposal on seat sharing, but they rejected it in the beginning. Our party will now go alone in the elections in Bengal,” Banerjee said amid the ongoing tussle between Congress and TMC over seat sharing. Have decided to fight.” The West Bengal Chief Minister also said that she has not talked to anyone in the Congress on seat sharing in the state.

How many seats did Mamata want to give to Congress?

Let us tell you that when the discussion started regarding seat sharing in INDIA Alliance, Mamata Banerjee had made her stand clear on giving seats to Congress in West Bengal. He offered to give only those two out of all 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal which the Congress had won in 2019. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, out of 42 seats in West Bengal, TMC had won 22 seats, while BJP had won 18 and Congress had won 2 seats.
