Congress furious over suspending MPs

Congress on Thursday termed the suspension of 14 opposition members from both Houses of Parliament as ‘suspension of democracy’, saying all this has been done to divert attention from the issue of lapse in security of Parliament and to hide the failure of the government. A total of 13 members in the Lok Sabha and Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien in the Rajya Sabha have been suspended for the remaining period of the winter session. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge posted on social media platform Suspending 15 opposition MPs from Parliament is suspension of democracy.

Congress furious over suspension of MPs

He said, “What is their crime?” Is it a crime to request the Union Home Minister to make a statement in the House? Is it a crime to discuss a security breach? Doesn’t this underline that aspect of dictatorship which has become the hallmark of the present system? Kharge wrote a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar saying that the lapse in security of Parliament is a matter of serious concern and a rule should be made in the House on this issue. Discussion should be held under 267. He said in the letter, “In view of the seriousness of the matter, I have come to the opinion in consultation with the leaders of the constituent parties of ‘India’ (alliance) in Parliament that this matter is of such importance that it should be raised under Rule 267. ”On acceptance of the notice under Rule 267, the remaining business in the Rajya Sabha is suspended and the issue raised by the member is discussed.

Jairam Ramesh said- this is worrying

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on ‘X’, “What happened in the Lok Sabha yesterday was extremely worrying. Whatever happened in the Lok Sabha today is absolutely strange. An MP from Tamil Nadu, who was not even present in the House and was out of New Delhi, was suspended for disrupting the proceedings! BJP MPs who helped those who infiltrated Parliament will not face any consequences. Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged, “The MPs were suspended to divert attention from their (government’s) failures and shortcomings.” Is. Democracy is being sacrificed with great cruelty in this government. Who knows where these people will take the country. If Modi is there then the country is in trouble.” Chaudhary said that now a decision will be taken on Friday regarding the further steps to be taken.
