Congress leader followed the Udaipur Declaration, resigned from the post after completing 5 years

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) National Secretary Virendra Vashisht has resigned from his post on Wednesday. He has resigned from the post after completing his five-year term on this post. He said that his decision is in line with the Udaipur Declaration. In a letter to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Vashisht has thanked the party for giving him the opportunity and said that he is fully committed to the ideals and goals of the Congress Party. His resignation has come at a time when Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is on a visit to America and is constantly attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi there.

Vashishtha said in his letter, “I am formally resigning from my position as Secretary, IOC Department of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in line with the Udaipur Declaration. I have completed five years in this position. It has been an honour for me to serve in this position. And I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have received during my tenure.”

In a letter to party president Kharge, he said, “However, I am fully committed to the ideals and goals of the Congress party. I will continue to work diligently as a Congress worker and am ready to fulfill whatever responsibility or task is entrusted to me in the future.”

In May 2022, the Congress Working Committee adopted the Udaipur Declaration on 15 May 2022, the last day of the three-day Chintan Shivir. According to this declaration, the party had decided to give 50 percent representation to people below the age of 50 at all levels of the organization. The Udaipur Declaration itself states that no person will hold any post in the party for more than five years and new people will be given opportunities. It was decided in the Udaipur session itself to implement the rule of ‘1 person, 1 post’, ‘1 family, 1 ticket’ in the party.
