Assembly elections are going to be held in Gujarat in two phases.
Ahmedabad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the previous Congress governments did not follow the values of Mahatma Gandhi and neglected the villages of Gujarat. PM Modi was speaking at a campaign rally for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates at Bavla village in Ahmedabad district in Gujarat. He said, ‘Mahatma Gandhi used to say that the soul of India resides in the villages. But Congress leaders never bothered to follow such Gandhian values.
He really crushed that spirit. Villages were neglected and their true potential was never understood. The Prime Minister said the gulf between villages and cities widened only under Congress governments, which “also took advantage of the conflict between the two”. He claimed, ‘Today everyone appreciates the Panchayati Raj system of Gujarat. But during the Congress rule, the budget of that department was only Rs 100 crore.
The Prime Minister said that after coming to power, the BJP focused on providing facilities like electricity and tap water in villages so that people do not have to migrate to cities due to lack of such facilities. In view of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party’s promise of giving free electricity in the poll-bound state of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that now is the time not to get free electricity but to earn from it.
Addressing an election rally at Modasa in Aravalli district of north Gujarat, Modi said he knows the art of how people can make money from electricity. During this, the Prime Minister took a jibe at the Congress and said that it works on the formula of “divide and rule” and is focused only on staying in power.
