Constitution Club’s car rally on the theme of road safety, 4 people die every year in road accidents
New Delhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday flagged off the annual car rally from the Constitution Club of Delhi. Apart from parliamentarians, officers of defense and para-military forces, industry as well as people from different walks of life participated in this car rally. The theme of the car rally is ‘Road Safety’. Every year 4 lakh people die in road accidents and serious concern has been raised about this.
At the beginning of the program, tributes were paid to former Members of Parliament who lost their lives in road accidents. BJP MP from Bihar Rajiv Pratap Rudy started such rallies by taking MPs and officials along. During Corona, the Constitution Club had distributed free food packets to paramilitary forces and government employees in Delhi. The car rally has also become an annual function of the Constitution Club.
Unprecedented increase in length and quality of road network: Birla
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Om Birla said that there has been an unprecedented increase in the length and quality of the road network in the country. Also, highways and roads are increasing in number, length and quality. Birla said that where historical changes have taken place in the socio-economic life of people through Mission Gati Shakti, on the other hand the number of road accidents is increasing. He said that the number of people losing their lives in road accidents is increasing which is a matter of serious concern.
Lok Sabha Speaker said that engineering, enforcement, education and emergency care are the four pillars for security. The most important thing in this direction is that our citizens should be aware on this subject. Road safety can really be ensured only when all the people and civil society cooperate in this work along with the efforts being made by the government.
Four lakh people are dying every year
According to statistics, there are more than 4 lakh accidents in the country every year and more than 1.5 lakh people die in this every year. If one year’s road accident is assessed economically, it will sit equal to about 1 percent of the country’s GDP.
