Additional Solicitor General of NIA opposed Gautam Navlakha’s plea.
Gautam Navlakha has demanded through a petition that he should be kept under house arrest instead of jail.

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Wednesday said corrupt people are destroying the country and they get away from corruption charges with the help of money. The oral remarks of the apex court came when it was hearing her plea to keep social activist Gautam Navlakha under house arrest instead of judicial custody. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the National Investigation Agency (NIA), opposed his plea and told the apex court that people like Navlakha want to destroy the country.

Raju said, ‘His ideology is like that. It is not that they are innocent people. He is the person involved in the real war. A bench of Justices KM Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy then remarked, “Do you want to know who is destroying this country? people who are corrupt. What happens every office you go to? Who takes action against the corrupt? We should be accused of being biased.

“We have seen a video of people talking about crores of rupees to buy our so called elected representatives,” the bench said. Are you saying that they are not doing anything against our country? The point is you don’t defend them, but they go on growing. They go for fun. There are money bags that can help you save. The Additional Solicitor General said that he was not defending the corrupt. He further said that action should be taken against such people.

The top court asked Raju to take instructions from the Center and tell it what conditions can be imposed on Navlakha if the detention request is allowed. The bench said, “At least for the time being, we will see. You investigate and come back so that nothing happens against the interest of our country. We are equally aware of it. If he (Navlakha) does anything wrong, he will lose his freedom..’
