Court granted interim bail to Delhi riots accused Haider; Know the basis of bail and conditions of release

The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Meeran Haider, a Jamia student and RJD youth wing leader. Haider’s name is associated with the 2020 Delhi riots. He is accused of inciting violence during the riots. Haider has taken this bail on humanitarian grounds. He had appealed to the court citing the death of his sister’s son (due to premature birth). Let us tell you that those riots led to 53 deaths and about 700 people were injured in Delhi. The whole matter was during the protests related to CAA and NRC.

Argument given for bail

Haider’s lawyer argued in court that his sister is left alone in the family. There is no other male member of the family with her, because her husband works in UAE. The lawyer emphasized that Haider has been in jail since April 2020, she has not asked for any interim bail before this. At the same time, the prosecutor informed the court that his sister’s husband is in India and is going to return to UAE on Sunday. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai, after considering the arguments, said that the court considers it appropriate to give him relief. Therefore, Haider is allowed bail for 10 days.

These conditions will have to be followed during bail

The court has also asked Haider to follow some important things. The court said that Haider will not come in contact with any witness during bail. He will not try to destroy or tamper with the evidence in any way. The court also said that he will give his phone number to the investigating officers and will keep his phone on during bail. Giving strict instructions, it has been said that during this time Haider will not give any interview to any media group nor will he talk to them. This also includes social media.

Delhi riots of the year 2020

Delhi Police has alleged that Meeran Haider was the coordinator of Jamia Coordination Committee. He played an important role in organizing protest sites during the Delhi riots in the year 2020. The police has argued that Haider’s involvement in these activities is enough to impose all the sections of UAPA and IPC on him. In these cases, Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and many others have been accused of being the masterminds of the riots. Let us tell you that these riots led to 53 deaths and about 700 people were injured in Delhi. This whole matter was during the protest related to CAA and NRC.
