It would be better if they were present on time. If it is not, it is of the past, even then it is not bad. Because they always go not only by telling us something, but also by teaching. Brings back memories of our times. Even after sweetening the spices of the serious ones, they drink it softly. That’s why ‘Dastaan-Go’ has started, the process of bringing interesting stories to your loved ones. Will try to continue this process. Monday to Friday, everyday…

Sir, Just ask someone how much do you know about Yash Raj Chopra? Or about Yash Raj Films? Then it is possible that he may not be able to answer or he has to put some emphasis in his mind. But if the question is asked like ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ (1995), ‘Mohabbatein’ (2000), ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ (1976), ‘Chandni’ (1989), ‘Silsila’ (1981), ‘Veer- Have you seen movies like ‘Zaara’ (2004)? So of course most of the answers will come in ‘yes’. Most of the people must have seen these movies many times. All people of this type will be familiar with the banner of ‘Yashraj Films’. He must have also heard the name of Yash Raj Chopra, who was called the ‘King of Romance’ in the world of Hindi films because of his memorable romantic films. Today, 27th September is the birthday of the same Yash Raj Sahab. He was born in the year 1932 in Lahore, Punjab.

Yash Raj Sahab was the youngest of eight siblings. One of his siblings was Baldev Raj Chopra i.e. BR Chopra, who made the famous serial ‘Mahabharata’, which was broadcast on Doordarshan in 94 episodes from 1988 to 1990. So sir, it is necessary to tell about Yash Raj sahib at the very beginning of the story that even the common people who are fond of films may give him the title of ‘King of Romance’, but the experts do not keep him tied to such an extent. They give many examples. Like- Yash Raj Sahab’s last film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (2012) and his directorial debut ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ (1959). Putting these two in front, as it is said, one would not understand that both the films belong to the same filmmaker. More such examples are counted, which show that the scope of Yash Raj Sahab is not even ‘romantic films’.

For example- Yash Raj Sahab’s film ‘Waqt’ (1965), this was the first in Hindi cinema, in which many famous actors were taken. That is, the first ‘multi-starrer’. Further, filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali, Karan Johar carried forward this series of ‘multi-starrer’ films with great gusto. By the way, if the mention of Karan Johar has come, then let us tell that his father used to be the brother of Yash Johar, Indrasen Johar i.e. IS Johar. He became a big name in the film world. There were different types of comedians. He used to write the stories of films, make them and also direct them. It is said about these IS Johar that he helped Yash Raj Sahab and his elder brother BR Chopra to establish a foothold in the film world. Rather, Yash Raj Sahab started his film journey as an assistant director with IS Johar.

Well, the talk was going on about Yash Raj Sahab’s film Shahkars. So sir, another film comes under his purview, ‘Kala Patthar’ (1979). Even after seeing this film made on a real accident in a coal mine in Bengal, hardly anyone can say that it was made by the same Yash Raj Sahab, who is called the ‘King of Romance’. The one whose films are seen romancing between the waterfalls, mountains, plains of other countries like Switzerland. Even so, if there is no hope, then there is a ‘wall’ (1975). A film to give Amitabh Bachchan the shape of ‘Angry Young-Man’. In front of Amitabh sahib, his fans liked this appearance more, in this way, there will be no wrong. And why only Amitabh sahib? The responsibility of giving Rajesh Khanna his first hit film also falls on Yash Raj Sahib, many experts tell a story related to it.

Yash Raj Chopra also produced many successful films. (News 18 Hindi Graphics)

This thing is from the year 1969. Around this period, Yash Raj Sahab opened his new film company after separating from BR Chopra. Before this, he used to work with his elder brother for directing his films. So sir, Yash Raj was making the film ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan’ in those days. This film came only in the year 1969. But before its release, actress Saira Banu fell ill during the shooting. She returned after a month after recovering. Meanwhile, the shooting of ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan’ was halted. But at the same time, Yash Raj sahib hurriedly made ‘Ittifaq’ (1969) with Rajesh Khanna and Nanda. The film turned out well and so did the career of Rajesh Khanna, which was in turmoil due to the failure of the first four-five films. By the way, another ittifaq is associated with the film ‘Ittifaq’.

It is a coincidence that there is no song in this first hit film of Rajesh Khanna. Now just imagine that the filmmaker, who is especially known for playing songs that evoke the effect of love in his romantic films, is also making a film without any songs. In the world of Hindi films, there are only a few such films so far, without songs. By the way, the song may not be there but the music was in ‘Ittifaq’. Famous musician Salil Choudhary composed the music (background music etc.) for this film. Now when it comes to songs and music, it may also be interesting to know that Javed Akhtar Sahab also became a film Nagma-Nigar because of Yash Raj Sahab. Earlier, he used to write stories for films. Used to write dialogues. Sometimes with Salim Khan sahib (father of famous actor Salman Khan) and sometimes apart from him.

Javed Akhtar himself had revealed during an interview that how his ‘silsila’ of writing film songs started. The story of the movie ‘Silsila’ is. The responsibility of writing the songs for this film was on the shoulders of Sahir Ludhianvi. But once his health deteriorated a bit, Yash Raj sahib urged Javed sahib to write some songs in his place. Javed sahib was not ready for this at first. He was feeling a bit uncomfortable, but ‘Yashraj sahib stubbornly decided that Nagma will now be written by you’. And after giving up, he even wrote to Javed sahib and then, ‘Saw a dream, this series happened’. Similarly, the career of another famous actor Kader Khan’s film acting also started with Yash Raj Sahab’s films. From the film ‘Daag’ in the year 1973. Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore were the lead actors in this film.

When Yash Raj Sahab stepped into film production from film direction, the first film he made was this, ‘Daag’. However, the process that started from here is still ‘immaculate’, going on at its full speed. Yash Raj sahab’s brother-in-law Aditya Chopra, Uday Chopra, etc. are carrying forward the streak drawn by their father. However, it may surprise one to know that when Yash Raj sahib was venturing into film production, he was advised by many that there is no use in this work. There is a risk of losing everything. Famous filmmaker Gulshan Rai was also among those who gave such advice. He also used to give money on interest to Hindi filmmakers to make films. This same Gulshan Rai had even predicted that the film ‘Daag’ would not work. But how and how much did this film go, it is recorded in the date of the film world.

It is said that ‘Daag’ was released on 27th April 1973 and two days later i.e. from 29th April, Yash Raj sahib started getting calls from the owners of all the theaters of the country, who had not shown interest in putting this film in their place earlier. So sir, these were some examples of Yash Raj Sahab’s filmmaking. Certainly not complete. It cannot even be completed in a few words. But yes, in this film of Yash Raj sahib, some great examples could have been printed, had he not said goodbye to this world on October 21, 2012. He was 80 years old then. Still, there was no trace of age in the spirit. But what about the mosquitoes? Where do they consider someone’s age? Yash Raj sahib was also caught by dengue, a disease caused by mosquito bites. It is possible, and like other people, they have also thought of it as common fever before. But that’s what took them away from this world. It was not common, because it is not common at all.
