New Delhi. A Delhi court has rejected the bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Tahir Hussain in a case related to the 2020 riots in North East Delhi. The court said that if Hussain is granted bail, people who testify about his role in the case may face ‘enormous pressure and intimidation’. Hussain had applied for bail in the case registered on the complaint of a person named Ajay Goswami.
Goswami was shot on February 25, 2020 during a riot-related incident on Karawal Nagar Main Road. In this case, on November 5, the court had framed charges against Hussain and seven others. Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala, in an order passed on Wednesday, said the allegations against the applicant were serious. There are also strong apprehensions of influencing the witnesses and posing threat to them.
The judge said, ‘Considering all these facts and circumstances, I do not think that there has been any change of circumstances in favor of the accused, on the basis of which this petition can be accepted.’ Apart from this, the High Court dismissed his petition challenging the framing of money laundering charges against Tahir Hussain. Justice Anu Malhotra said that the petition and several applications filed along with it are dismissed.
The judge had reserved the order on Hussain’s plea on November 15. In the petition, the lower court’s order of November 3 was challenged. In that order, charges have been framed against Tahir Hussain for alleged offenses under Section 3 and Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
