Delhi Women’s Commission counselor attacked, dragged out of rickshaw
New Delhi. Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, has issued a notice to the Delhi Police regarding the snatching of the mobile phone of a counselor working in the Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) program in the Commission. A counselor working with the Commission’s CIC program filed a complaint with the Commission. In which she told that on November 10, under the official work assigned by the CIC, the counselor had gone to Seelampur police station to meet a complainant. After this, to help a victim of sexual harassment, he took an e-rickshaw from the police station to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital.
She told that when she reached near Shastri Park Road, three bike-borne men attacked her and tried to snatch her phone. When she protested, they pulled her out of the rickshaw but her feet got stuck in the moving rickshaw, causing her to slide on the ground. Due to this he has got many injuries. After the incident, the rickshaw driver took him to Shastri Park police station, from where he was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital and his MLC was done.
The counselors working in the commission often work in odd conditions and they have to take action against the criminals. It was extremely unfortunate that a counselor who was appointed to assist a victim of sexual violence was herself attacked and had to be taken to the hospital.

Delhi Women’s Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to the SHO of Shastri Park police station seeking action taken report. The commission has sought a copy of the FIR along with the details of the arrests made in the case. Apart from this, the commission has also asked whether the phone of the counselor has been traced and given back to him.
Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal said, ‘Our counselors work day and night on the ground to help women and girls in distress. Many times they have to work in very adverse conditions and have to face criminals. This incident is very unfortunate as caregivers and support persons for victims of sexual violence are also unsafe in the capital. A girl counselor who was going to the hospital to help a victim herself had to undergo medical treatment. I have issued a notice to the Delhi Police. The accused persons should be arrested immediately and strict action should be taken against them.
