Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended CBI investigation

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has recommended a CBI inquiry into the alleged procurement and supply of substandard medicines not meeting quality standards to Delhi government hospitals. Officials of Raj Niwas gave this information on Saturday. Delhi Environment Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi state convenor Gopal Rai has said on this matter that the government will give a detailed response. He also alleged that efforts are being made to hinder the work of the government through such investigations.

What did the Lieutenant Governor say?

Raj Niwas officials said that in a note to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, the Lieutenant Governor has mentioned that it is worrying that these medicines are being given to lakhs of patients. The note addressed to Kumar said, “I have studied the file. This is a matter of deep concern. I am distressed by the fact that millions of helpless people and patients are being given substandard medicines that have failed quality standard tests.

The Lieutenant Governor in his note said that these medicines, procured by the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) under Delhi Health Services (DHS), were supplied to Delhi government hospitals and may have also been supplied to mohalla clinics. He said, “The medicines were tested by the government as well as private analysts or laboratories as per the rules and statutory provisions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and these medicines failing the test were declared ‘not conforming to the standard quality’. Has been classified as.

What else did Saxena say?

Saxena also said in his note that ‘these medicines, procured by spending huge budgetary resources, pose a serious threat to public health and safety’ and could ‘put people’s lives at risk.’ “Prima facie, apart from CPA-DHS, Delhi government, this entire exercise involves suppliers, manufacturers located in other states and the drug controllers of those states,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor said that the case of Mohalla Clinic is already with the CBI. He said that medicines of ‘non-standard quality’ may also be supplied in these clinics. In such a situation, its investigation can also be handed over to the central agency, because the scope of investigation includes various stakeholders including CPA-DHS, Delhi Government, suppliers, dealers, manufacturers and agencies of other states.

Raj Niwas officials said the Vigilance Directorate had submitted a report in the matter. Complaints were being received about supply of substandard medicines in Delhi government hospitals. After this, samples were collected from government hospitals. Responding to questions on the issue, Rai said that he had not seen the details of the case.

Rai said, “The government will give its response after a detailed study.” But such a system of sending cases to CBI for investigation has become a means of hindering the work of the government. Stop deciding on authority matters. But in this case the government will study it.

Sources in the AAP-led government claimed that a complaint against a senior health department official was first sent to the Lieutenant Governor. A source said, “Now, will the Lieutenant Governor take action against this officer? The same officer was responsible for stopping the ‘Delhi Ke Farishte’ scheme. We had earlier requested the Lieutenant Governor to remove this officer.” (Input: Language)
