After the removal of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh and the formation of a new interim government under the patronage of the army, relations with India are also witnessing a change. While the BSF was building a fence near the Cooch Behar border, Bangladesh Border Guards tried to obstruct their work. On the other hand, Bangladesh is also blaming India for the floods. There is a rumour in Bangladesh that the Indian government has opened the gate of the Dumbur dam in Tripura, due to which there has been a flood. Let us tell you that this Dumbur dam is 120 kilometers away from the Bangladesh border. Bangladesh also gets 40 megawatts of electricity from this dam. This dam is built on the Gumti river.
12 districts of Bangladesh are currently facing severe floods. About 35 lakh people are affected by the floods. Dozens have lost their lives so far. Now many leaders of the interim government and Khaleda Zia of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party are blaming India for this flood. Bangladeshi minister Nahid Islam also says that India released a large amount of water without warning, which has become a big problem for Bangladesh. A BNP leader said that India has done this deliberately. It does not care about the people of Bangladesh.
India gave a blunt answer
The Indian government has issued a statement clarifying the situation on these allegations of Bangladesh. The Indian Foreign Ministry says that it is saddened by the situation in Bangladesh but this situation has not arisen due to the opening of the Dambur Dam on the Gumti River in Tripura. The Foreign Ministry said that there has been heavy rainfall around the Gumti River this time, and this is the result of that. There is a flood situation in many places in Tripura as well. Floods have occurred due to water entering the low-lying areas.
Currently, Tripura has received 151 percent more rainfall this time. Due to this, many rivers are flowing above the danger mark. According to the BBC report, Tripura’s Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that only negative propaganda is being done about the Dumbur Dam. No gate has been opened on the Gumti River Dam. When the dam has more water than the maximum storage capacity of the reservoir, it automatically flows out of the gate. The gates close automatically when the water level decreases. There is also a terrible flood in Tripura. Such a terrible flood has not been seen in the state for three decades.
People in Bangladesh are blaming the Indian government for this flood on social media. They say that India has deliberately released water because it cannot tolerate the departure of Sheikh Hasina. Let us tell you that there has been a coup in Bangladesh recently. After the anti-reservation movements turned violent, former PM Sheikh Hasina resigned and came to India. After this, the army took over and then an interim government was formed under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus. This interim government has the support of BNP.
