Dinesh Trivedi expressed apprehension from News18, said – so many coincidences do not happen together

New Delhi. After the train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district on June 2, former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi was the first to express apprehensions of sabotage. Talking to News18, he said that the possibility of sabotage behind the accident cannot be ruled out. Accidents are considered to be the worst in nature. Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train were involved in the Odisha train accident.

After preliminary investigation and findings of the engineers, the ministry handed over the matter to the CBI yesterday. This is the third time in the last 10 years that a train accident case will be probed by a central probe agency. In 2010, the CBI took over the investigation of the Dnyaneshwari accident, six years later the NIA took over the investigation of the Kanpur train accident.

100% sure that the accident was caused by sabotage
Speaking to News18, former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi said what happened to the interlocking system, its functioning and the incident? From the inputs and understanding I have about it, I think there was a serious manipulation, due to which the Coromandel Express moved from the main track to the loop line. Now with more findings coming in, I am more than 100% sure that this accident happened due to sabotage and not just an accident.’

Fail safe system comes into play if the interlocking system fails
Dinesh Trivedi said that the signal was green and it is impossible for the interlocking system to malfunction like this. In a railway system, there are not so many coincidences. If at some point one interlocking system fails or malfunctions, another system is implemented; This is called ‘fail-safe’. If the fail-safe is activated, all signals on a specific track turn red, and the train will not move. He said that it seems to be a conspiracy, which has been executed carefully.

Train changed track after system was tampered with
The former railway minister said that the iron ore-laden goods train was standing like a rock when the passenger train rammed into it on the loop line, and it was not a case of simple signal failure or derailment. He said that ‘we should understand that a loco pilot can only press the brake or increase the speed of the train on the basis of the signal. The loco pilot can neither change the track nor change the route of the trains. So, after the system was tampered with, the train changed the track and automatically moved from the main line to the loop line.

Train can never change track so easily
Had it been a simple case of signal failure or interlocking system malfunction, the train could never have changed track so smoothly. With system failure, the tracks are automatically blocked and the signals turn red. Trivedi also dismissed theories put forth by opposition politicians, who called the railways a “bad system” and questioned the non-availability of anti-collision armour.

The investigation of the Janeshwari Express accident was handed over to the CBI.
He said, “West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also experienced such an incident. In 2010, the Janeshwari Express accident took place in West Midnapore district. Then he handed over the investigation to the CBI and asked the CPI(M) not to do politics. However, now she is becoming forgetful and repeating the same things; Which CPI(M) did then.
