Diwali 2022 Special: Mohan Thal is a traditional sweet dish which is often prepared on special occasions. The traditional taste of this sweet made from gram flour is very much liked.

Ingredients for Mohan Thal
Besan – 3 cups
Milk – 1/4 cup
Mawa – 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder – 1/4 tsp
Sweet saffron color – 1 pinch
Dry fruits – 2 tbsp
Silver Burke – 1-2
Desi Ghee – 1/2 cup
Sugar – 1/2 cup

How to make Mohan Thal
If you are including Mohan Thal in Diwali sweets, then to make it, first take a big bowl and add 3 cups gram flour, 1/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup desi ghee and mix it all well. Mix it till the moisture comes in the gram flour. Keep rubbing the gram flour till the gram flour becomes grainy. After this, filter this gram flour through a sieve of large holes.

Now take a wok and put 1 cup of desi ghee in it and heat it on medium flame. When the ghee melts completely, add the gram flour mixture and fry the gram flour on low flame. Besan has to be roasted till its color becomes golden brown. It may take 15 to 20 minutes for this to happen. After roasting well, the gram flour will start leaving the pan.

Now add half a cup of milk to this mixture and cook while stirring. Cook the gram flour till all the milk is absorbed. After this, turn off the gas and take out the mixture in a big bowl. After this, put sugar and water in a large pan and heat it on medium heat. Boil this mixture until a string syrup is ready. After this, add a pinch of sweet saffron color to the syrup and dissolve it.

The saffron color enhances the color of the barfi, although it is optional. After that add mawa to the syrup and mix it well. After this, add the roasted gram flour mixture to the syrup and mix. Cook the mixture with sugar syrup until the mixture starts leaving the pan. After this mix cardamom powder in it. Now grease a plate or tray with ghee and spread the prepared mixture in it in equal proportions.
After this keep the tray aside for 4-5 hours, so that the mixture can set well. If you want the mixture to set quickly, then you can also keep it in the fridge. After the mixture is set, apply silver bark on it and then cut it into desired shape. Lastly, garnish them with dry fruits.
