ED officer who was on CBI’s radar committed suicide, body found on railway track

The body of an ED officer who was under the scanner of the CBI in a corruption case was found on a railway track. It is likely that he has committed suicide. The body of ED officer Alok Kumar Pankaj was found on a railway track in Sahibabad near Delhi on Tuesday.

Alok Kumar, a resident of Ghaziabad, was on deputation to the ED in New Delhi. Earlier, he had worked in the Income Tax Department. Recently, he was questioned twice by the CBI in an alleged corruption case, but was let off due to lack of evidence.

Alok Kumar Pankaj’s name cropped up in the bribery case after an ED assistant director Sandeep Singh was arrested by the CBI. The CBI had received a complaint from a person that Sandeep Singh had allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh for not arresting his son. After this, the agency laid a trap and Singh was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh in Delhi.

Sandeep Singh had also allegedly taken bribe from a Mumbai jeweler whose store was raided earlier by the ED. In the same case, Alok Kumar Pankaj was also made an accused along with Sandeep Singh in the FIR. Sandeep Singh was suspended after this case. The police has kept the body of the ED officer in the mortuary for post-mortem. Also, an investigation has been started in the case to find out the reason for the alleged suicide.
