Embraced, then kept hand on shoulder; This was the historic meeting of PM Modi and Zelensky

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine is historic in many ways. This is the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Ukraine. PM Modi’s visit is taking place at a time when Ukraine is going through the deepest crisis. During this, the meeting between PM Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was very emotional. The top leaders of the two countries first shook hands and then hugged each other. This scene gave the message to the whole world that India understands the pain of Ukraine and stands with it in its struggle.

PM Modi and Zelensky visited the ‘Martyrologist Exposition’ in Kiev. Here PM Modi saw the horrors of war closely. During this time, Prime Minister Modi’s hand was firmly resting on Zelensky’s shoulder. This visit was also very important for Zelensky. Shortly before, when Prime Minister Modi visited Russia, Zelensky expressed displeasure over the pictures of him and President Putin. But this meeting in Kiev left all those controversies behind and gave birth to a new rapport between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv on Friday morning and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the ‘Oasis of Peace’ park during the day. “Recalling the Mahatma’s eternal message of peace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the ‘Oasis of Peace’ park in Kyiv,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote in a post on Twitter. Amid chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, PM Modi paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and reiterated India’s position on global conflicts, saying, “This is not the time for war. This is the time to unite and face the challenges that threaten humanity.” His statement clearly reflects India’s peaceful and diplomatic stance.

Jaiswal said that the Prime Minister underlined the relevance of the Mahatma’s eternal message of peace in building a harmonious society and finding solutions to current global challenges. Earlier, PM Modi was given a grand welcome by the people of the Indian community on his arrival here.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during this visit, various issues such as political, trade, economic, investment, education, cultural, and humanitarian aid were discussed between the two countries. This visit of the Prime Minister was also important because it was taking place at a time when Western countries had put pressure on India to condemn Russia’s aggression. But India maintained its neutral stance and balanced the relations between the two countries.

The purpose of this visit of Prime Minister Modi was not only to reduce tensions but also to take new steps towards peace and cooperation. Former Indian ambassador Skand Ranjan Tayal says that PM Modi will give the message to Zelensky that India is ready to walk on the path of friendship and cooperation with the people of Ukraine.

This visit of PM Modi was only for seven hours but in these few hours he has left a deep impression in the hearts of the people of Ukraine. This historic meeting between India and Ukraine has not only given a new dimension to the relations between the two countries but has also proved that whenever there is a crisis on humanity anywhere in the world, India stands with it.
