Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar Lal Chowk, once infamous for terror, curfew, stone-pelting and terrorist attacks, will soon be equipped with facilities like Free Wi-Fi Zones. . J&K (J&K) administration has planned to develop this part as Smart City. Under this, for the first time, under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, a total of 8 such zones including Lal Chowk of Srinagar have been identified which are planned to be made free Wi-Fi zones.
A total of 8 such temporary zones have been identified by the J&K administration, including Lal Chowk of Srinagar, which will be made Free Wi-Fi Zones in the coming times. These include the wooden arched Zero Bridge over the Jhelum River, the three famous gardens of Chashme Shahi, Nishat Garden, Shalimar Bagh, sections on both sides of the Jhelum Riverfront, the VIP area of Polo View and Residency Road, etc. All the government documents related to this entire project are available with News18, in which there are complete details of the scheme. High speed internet access will be provided for the first 15 minutes
The objective of this scheme is to provide high-speed internet service to the common citizens as well as tourists in the areas of Srinagar. Along with this, high speed internet facility will also be provided at places with other commercial activities. Its big impact will be seen on commercial activities. It is said in the documents that the use of WiFi will act as a magnet at these places. It has also been clarified in the documents that users will be provided with high speed internet access for the first 15 minutes. After this, users will be given the option to continue internet access by purchasing data for an additional period of time.
According to the documents, it is also being considered so that more and more citizens can be connected with e-government services and it should be expedited. This will lead to less time on operating expenses. It is said that Lal Chowk is a major business center where businessmen have been complaining about poor internet connectivity. Due to the lack of good internet facility, it is becoming a hindrance in the business through digital payment. It is being assessed administratively that after such a decision there will be an increase in the local economic development. Along with this, online services will also be expanded and easily accessible.
There will be an overall limit of 300 MB per month for Wi-Fi.

These Wi-Fi zones will also be able to provide digital information panel boards which can become a big source of revenue.
