A sensational case of a doctor being shot dead inside a nursing home in the Kalindi Kunj area of south-east Delhi in the early hours of Thursday has come to light. The police have reportedly arrested a 16-year-old minor boy for this crime.

Officials said that the arrested teenager along with another teenager had come to the three-bed Neema Hospital located in a narrow lane of Khadda Colony of the area for first aid at around 1 am in the night. After this he allegedly shot dead Unani physician (BUMS) Dr. Javed Akhtar.
Police said the main accused, who is around 16 years of age, uploaded his photo on the social media platform after allegedly committing the crime. Whose caption read, ‘Committed murder in 2024.’ Sources said that the police have also interrogated a female nurse of the nursing home and her husband in connection with the case. Joint Police Commissioner (Southern Range) SK Jain said the murder was a target killing by two boys living in the same area.
Jain said that one of the accused was arrested from Hapur, but at present the motive behind the crime is not known. He said teams are trying to nab the second accused, who appears to be a minor. The two met a compounder for dressing and later shot the Unani physician in his cabin. The arrested teenager had allegedly fired at the doctor. Jain told that his actions have also been captured in the CCTV camera installed in the nursing home.
Six teams were formed and CCTV footage was collected from inside and around the nursing home, the official said. He said that Crime Branch teams also helped in arresting the main accused. According to another police officer, Akhtar was seen bleeding from the head on a chair inside the nursing home. He is survived by his wife, who is also a Unani doctor, and two children. The family lived in Shaheen Bagh. The officer said that one of the two accused had got his toe bandaged by the compounder before firing the shot.
Nursing home employee Abid told that Akhtar was working there for the last two years. On the day of the incident, his duty started at 8 pm on Wednesday night. Nursing staff Ghazala Parveen and Mohammad Kamil, who were on night duty, heard the sound of gunshot. Parveen reached inside the cabin and saw that Akhtar was sitting soaked in blood. The officer said, ‘It was an unprovoked firing. It has also been revealed that the accused had done Reiki a day earlier.
