Bengaluru: A case has been registered in Karnataka against Gopal Joshi, brother of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Gopal Joshi has been accused of cheating to the tune of Rs 2 crore by luring him with a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections. A woman named Sunita Chavan has lodged an FIR in Basaveshwar Nagar police station. At the same time, on behalf of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, it has been said that his relationship with Gopal Joshi was broken ten years ago. He has no relation with his brother.
Sunita Chavan is the wife of former MLA Devanand Chavan. Devanand Chavan was elected JDS MLA from Nagathana constituency in 2018 but lost the 2023 election. Devanand Chavan, who is trying for ticket in 2024 elections, was introduced to Gopal Joshi through Shekhar Naik.
Rs 5 crore bribe was demanded
According to the complaint, Gopal Joshi met the Chauhan couple in Hubli in the first week of March. He said that he will provide ticket for Lok Sabha elections. Gopal Joshi told him that my brother has a good position in the Central Government. PM Modi and Amit Shah will definitely listen to him. Accused Gopal Joshi assured Devanand Chavan that he would get him a ticket from Vijaypura and in return he demanded Rs 5 crore. But the Chavan couple left from there saying that Rs 5 crore was not possible. Later Gopal Joshi and Shekhar convinced the Chavan couple. Rs 25 lakh in cash was taken from him and a check was taken for the remaining amount. These Rs 25 lakh were delivered to Vijayalakshmi’s house in Basaveshwaranagar, Bengaluru.
Accused of insulting the victim
When Devanand Chavan did not get the ticket, Sunita called Gopal again. Gopal Joshi told him that he was going to get a project worth Rs 200 crore and he would return the money. He also asked him to cooperate by paying Rs 1.75 crore, which he would return within 20 days. She said that when she did not get any response even after a month, she started calling Gopal, but did not get any response.
Sunita tried to meet Gopal at his home in Hubli, but every time she received a reply that he was not at home. The victim said he was assured that the money would be returned. Sunita finally reached Vijayalakshmi’s house in Basaveshwara Nagar, Bengaluru, where she was humiliated and thrown out of the house. After which Sunita lodged a complaint with the police.
