FIR against Vinesh, Sakshi and Bajrang, Wrestlers booked for rioting, action by Delhi Police

New Delhi. The Delhi Police on Sunday registered an FIR against the organizers of the wrestlers’ protest at Jantar Mantar and their supporters for rioting and obstructing the work of government employees. Earlier, Delhi Police on Sunday detained Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Poonia for violating law and order after they tried to break through the security cordon and proceed towards the new Parliament House for the women’s wrestler ‘mahapanchayat’.

The country’s top wrestlers resumed their agitation on April 23 demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Brij Bhushan Singh has been accused of alleged sexual harassment of several women wrestlers including a minor. Police said that 700 people were detained across Delhi, including 109 protesters at Jantar Mantar.

Case registered under serious sections
According to a senior police officer, sections 188 (disobedience to order of public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) FIR has been registered under.

He said that IPC sections 352 (assault or criminal force other than grave provocation), 147 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) are also included in the FIR.
