Lord Shiva refused to go to the Yagya without invitation but on the strong insistence of Sati, he gave permission. Sati was insulted when she went there. Saddened by this, Sati burnt herself in the sacrificial fire. Then Lord Shiva got angry and destroyed the Yagya.
