First G-20 tourism working group meeting in Gujarat, foreign tourists increased four times in the country
About 6.19 million foreign tourist arrivals in the country in 2022
Short term hospitality courses are also being run to make the youth skilled.
New Delhi. The inaugural session of the first meeting of the G20 Working Group began today at Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. It is being hosted by the Ministry of Tourism. The inaugural session was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and DoNER G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Purushottam Rupala and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Bhai Patel besides representatives from Trokia, Brazil and Indonesia.
Addressing the inaugural session, Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and Donor G.K. Reddy said that despite the tourism sector being badly affected by Covid, there is a huge increase in foreign tourist arrivals in India 2022. About 6.19 million foreign tourists arrived in India during 2022. This is a four-fold increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals compared to the previous year. The Union Minister also informed that the Ministry of Tourism is celebrating this year as “Visit India Year 2023” focusing on travel to India. He said that in the last 8.5 years, India has built extensive tourism infrastructure worth about $1 billion (Rs 7,000 crore) to improve the tourist experience. The Union Minister said that India has taken several initiatives including short term hospitality courses, skill testing and certification, recognition of prior learning, online digital courses to skill the youth.
Union Minister Parshottam Rupala said the theme of India’s G20 chairmanship – “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – human beings, animals, plants and microorganisms – reaffirms the value of life for all and their interconnectedness on earth.
In his address on the occasion, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Bhai Patel said that tourism brings us closer to nature. Tourism is such a mode through which we can feel and experience the heritage and culture that we have got from our forefathers, thus it leads to unity in diversity.
