First justice, then tea; doctors drenched in the rain refused Mamata Banerjee’s hospitality

After the rape and murder of a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Medical College, junior doctors have been protesting outside the state health ministry for five consecutive days to demand their demands. The talks between the doctors and Mamata Banerjee on Saturday also remained inconclusive. Dr. Aqib, who was part of the delegation that went to talk to Mamata Banerjee, said that this protest will continue until justice is achieved.

Addressing the protesters, he said, “Today, Sandeep Ghosh has been arrested. This is proof that our demand was right. What Sandeep Ghosh did is an institutional crime. Many principals and officers may be involved in such activities. We want all those involved in such activities to resign. We will continue the movement until justice is achieved. We have come here for Abhaya and will continue to demand justice for her.”

Let us tell you that on Saturday, CBI arrested Sandip Ghosh and a policeman in the case of tampering with evidence. The name of the policeman is Abhijit Mandal who was the officer in charge at Tala police station at that time. He said that his meeting with Mamata Banerjee was cancelled and he had to return from her residence empty handed.

He said, we were called for talks at Kalighat. We wanted the meeting here. When we reached there, we said that the meeting should be video recorded and after it is over, the recording should be handed over to us. The officials did not agree to this. After this, the Chief Minister came out of her residence and called us for a discussion over tea. But the doctors said that they will have tea only after getting justice. After this, the demand for recording was put forward. After some time, it was said that nothing can be done now due to the delay. We kept waiting in the rain and had to return without any solution.

On Saturday, Mamata Banerjee had said that the demand for recording the meeting cannot be accepted because the case is in court. The Chief Minister had said that the recording of the meeting can be done but it will be handed over only after the court’s approval. She said, I assure you that whatever recording is there, you will get it. Even if you do not want to attend the meeting, come inside, have tea and then leave.
