New Delhi, A man has been arrested for duping more than 50 women in the name of getting Vaishno Devi Tour Package Fraud. The accused cheated the devotees by luring them through Facebook. Delhi Police gave this information on Sunday. The accused, identified as Madhur Kumar (36), a resident of Panipat in Haryana, joined groups of devotees formed on Facebook and shared messages to lure people with his fake tour packages, he said.
Police said that the accused used to extort money from people during festivals by promising them cheap tour packages and good facilities. He told that the matter came to light in February when a resident of Delhi lodged a complaint. The complaint said he saw a message on Facebook offering an alluring tour package to Vaishno Devi, which included bus charges and food, for a payment of Rs 1,300 per person.
According to the complaint, it was also assured that the passenger would be taken by a horse to the final destination. Police said that the victim deposited the amount on the QR code provided by the accused. According to the police, when the complainant along with 24 other women reached a flyover near Shahdara Metro Station on February 17, the organizers and the bus were not there.
Police said the women tried to contact the organizer but his number was found switched off. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rohit Meena said that a case has been registered under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. He said that through technical evidence, the police arrested the accused from Panipat. Police said that two mobile phones and the SIM card used in the crime have been recovered.
