Noida: A new type of fraud is taking place in the name of online shopping platform Amazon. Delivery people are reaching customers’ homes with deliveries that the customer did not order. When these delivery boys reach people’s homes, they say that someone else has ordered something for you but you will have to pay because it is a cash on delivery order. In such a situation, if the people present at home are not aware, then they make the payment thinking that an acquaintance must have placed the order for them. But when this parcel is opened, something very cheap is found inside it, whereas the customers had paid more for it.
Case of Udyog Vihar Society located in Sector 82, Noida
The latest case is of Udyog Vihar (LIG) Society located in Sector 82, Noida. A delivery boy reached a flat here on 30 September 2024 at around 3.10 pm. This person told the women present in the flat that your parcel has arrived from Amazon. The name and address of the person living in the flat was written correctly on this parcel. But the details written on the parcel did not contain any information other than the name of the sender. The delivery boy told that this parcel is cash on delivery, which means you will have to pay its price.
The women present in the flat felt that a family member might have ordered something. Therefore, these women paid the parcel to the delivery boy and took the parcel from him. When the head of the family came home in the evening, he found out that he had not ordered anything at all and he did not know anyone by that name whose name was written on the parcel as the sender. When the parcel was opened, it contained barely Rs 50 to Rs 100 worth of items, whereas the realized value was Rs 699.
When the victim’s family contacted Amazon’s customer care, they were also not able to get the details of the sender of the parcel and after registering a complaint, they said that you will get an update on this matter in 2 days.
Just 24 hours later, the delivery boy again reached the same house in Noida with a fraudulent parcel.
Not even 24 hours had passed since this matter, on October 1, once again the delivery boy reached the same flat at 5.15 pm and said that your parcel has arrived, but it is cash on delivery. This was the same delivery boy who had taken payment from the customer in a similar manner a day earlier. But on October 1, when the head of the family present in the flat was present at home, he started interrogating the delivery boy.
In such a situation, the delivery boy got nervous and said that if this is not your parcel then I will cancel it and you will not get the parcel from now on. During this time, the delivery boy also talked to someone on the phone and told him that the customer is aware, he should not face any problem in future.
When the customer doubted the delivery boy’s words, he took a photo of the delivery boy’s bike. But the customer was stunned to see that the number plate of the delivery boy’s bike was half broken, making it impossible to trace it.
How to find out that fraud took place?
When the delivery boy left after all the suspicious things came to light, the customer called Amazon’s helpline and told the whole matter. After which Amazon filed a complaint and told the customer that fraud has happened with him. In fact, from the ‘bar code’ of the packet delivered a day ago, Amazon’s customer care officer confirmed the fraud. After which the victim’s family has lodged a report on UP’s cyber crime helpline 1930. The acknowledgment number of the complaint is 33110240123615.
This fraud can happen to any person, in such a situation everyone needs to be aware and if any such incident comes to light then immediately file a report under cyber crime.
