India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has lashed out at critics who criticized Indian pitches during the Test series. He said that when matches finish in two days on pitches that give extra help to fast bowlers in South Africa, no one raises questions. Spinners get help as the conditions of the subcontinent are spin-friendly. The Indian head coach believes that the opposition teams should learn to play spinners. The first match of the two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh will be played in Chennai from Thursday.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir said on the eve of the match, “When the Indian team goes to South Africa and the Test match ends in two days, when the fast bowlers get extra help, no one talks about it. This debate has to end. You can’t say that Tests end in two days in India, the opposition teams have to learn to play spinners.”
Indian batsmen, including star batsman Virat Kohli, had to struggle against spinners in the ODI leg of the limited overs series in the recent Sri Lanka tour. After this, doubts are being expressed about their performance against spin bowlers in the Test series against Bangladesh starting on Thursday.
Gambhir said on the eve of the match, “Our batting unit has so much quality that it can face any kind of attack. There is a lot of difference between Test and ODI. It is all about the mindset and working on your defense to strengthen it. Once you do that, then you can bat easily.”
