Ghazi’s Dargah saves Karachi from danger? Even cyclones could not cause havoc

While Gujarat is getting relief from the cyclonic storm ‘Asna’ forming in the Arabian Sea, the clouds of crisis have started looming over the Pakistani city of Karachi. On Friday itself, due to heavy rains, the administration of Karachi ordered the closure of schools and colleges. At the same time, the people of Pakistan are also confident that like before, this time too the city of Karachi will be saved from the wrath of the cyclone. Why do the people of Pakistan have so much confidence? Let’s find out.

The believers of the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, who is known as the patron saint of Karachi, believe that he wards off all evils that befall the city. Regarding the safety of Karachi city, on one side there is the opinion of those who believe in religion and on the other side there is the opinion of science.

Who was Abdullah Shah Ghazi

Abdullah Shah Ghazi was a Sufi saint of the 18th century. It is said that he came from Arabia and stayed in Sindh province with his brother Syed Misri Shah. At the same time, many people say that he was from Medina in Saudi Arabia. Some people also say that he came from Iraq. It is said that he had some enemies and he was murdered in the dense forests of Sindh. After this, he was buried on a sand dune. This place is located in the city of Karachi and the view of the sea is also visible from here.

Now this dargah is very famous in terms of architecture and devotion. People from not only Pakistan but from all over the world come here to seek blessings of Ghazi. It is said that once a moustached man was trapped in a cyclone. Then Ghazi filled his food bowl with water and prayed and then the cyclone stopped. Now whenever there is a threat of cyclone on Karachi, his followers say that Ghazi will definitely stop it and keep the city safe.

what do scientists say

Cyclones Phet (2010), Nilofar (2014) Taute (2021) and Biparjoy (2023) that formed in the Arabian Sea also changed their path before reaching Karachi. Cyclones weaken by the time they reach Karachi. Experts say that the city of Karachi is curved inwards. In 2021, five people died in Karachi in the Taute storm.

The population of Karachi city is around 1.5 crore. There are buildings here which are extremely unsafe. Scientists say that the biggest reason for Karachi being saved from cyclones is the calm waters of the Arabian Sea. There are no conditions in this area for a severe cyclone to form. In such a situation, the cyclone weakens by the time it reaches Karachi. If we talk about history, there is a record of only three cyclones in the Arabian Sea in the month of August. However, all three weakened before reaching the coast.
