The Supreme Court reprimanded the Air Quality Management Commission set up to deal with pollution and stubble burning. The court said on Friday that the committee needs to be more active. Also, efforts should be made to ensure that alternative equipment for burning stubble is used at the grassroots level. The SC said that the Air Quality Management Commission should file a report on the steps taken to stop pollution and stubble burning.
Justice A. S. A bench of Justices Oka and Augustine George Masih heard the stubble burning case today. Justice Oka questioned, ‘The Act does not seem to be followed. Please let us know if even a single direction has been issued to any stakeholder under the Act. Has any concrete step been taken to solve this problem? We should be given an answer to this.
