Gujarat Elections: Will the Congress get benefit from the promise of renaming the Narendra Modi Stadium?

Voting for the assembly elections is to be held in Gujarat on 1 and 5 December. Before this, every party is engaged in wooing the public. In Gujarat too, the Congress party has also released its election manifesto. After which once again the Motera Stadium of Gujarat has come into the limelight. Congress has promised to change the name of Motera’s Narendra Modi Stadium to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in its manifesto released for the Gujarat assembly elections.

Congress party’s senior observer in the Gujarat assembly elections and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot while releasing the party’s manifesto said that if the Congress comes to power in the Gujarat assembly elections, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad will be renamed Sardar Vallabh again. Bhai Patel will be done.

Congress Manifesto Committee Chairman Deepak Babaria has told that some social workers of Karamsad town (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s native village) have demanded that the Motera cricket stadium be named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. . Which was its original name. Regarding which the party says that this decision will be taken in the first cabinet meeting after winning the assembly elections and the name of Narendra Modi Stadium will be changed to the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Let us inform that on February 24, 2021, the name of this Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad was changed to Narendra Modi Stadium and during that time too many people objected to the name change of this stadium. The Gujarat Cricket Association changed the name of this stadium last year, when the Congress called it an insult to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

On the other hand, in the manifesto issued for the Gujarat assembly elections to be held in December, the Congress has raised this point with full force that it will change the name of Narendra Modi Stadium to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Senior Congress leader Madhusudan Mistry even says that Prime Minister Modi changed the name of the stadium because he compares himself with Sardar Patel. Rather, he does not last anywhere in comparison to Sardar Patel and he will come to know this in these assembly elections. The public will answer this to them.

On the other hand, countering these allegations of Congress, BJP’s national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said that Congress has no right to talk about Sardar Patel. How much Congress respects Sardar Patel, it was seen many years back. During the independence of the country, despite Sardar Patel being everyone’s first choice, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was made the first Prime Minister of the country. Along with this, he surrounded the Congress and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has built ‘Statue of Unity’ paying tribute to Sardar Patel, but hardly any Congress leader has visited there.

At the same time, an organization named Sardar Samman Sankalp Andolan Samiti associated with the Patidar community has also demanded to change its name. This demand was made by the same group of Patidar leader Hardik Patel in Gujarat, which had launched a massive agitation for Patidar reservation in Gujarat in 2015.

However, in the month of May this year, Hardik Patel left the Congress party and joined the Congress. The BJP has also fielded 28-year-old Hardik Patel as its candidate for the Viramgam assembly seat in the Gujarat assembly elections.

On the other hand, Congress is trying hard to get the support of Patel community after Patidar leader Hardik Patel joined BJP. For which the party has talked about changing the name of Narendra Modi Stadium to Sardar Patel in its manifesto. So that the support of the Patidar (Patel) community is not only available in this election, but also in the coming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the image of the Congress remains among the Patel community.

Why is the Patidar community the kingmaker in Gujarat?

The Patel community is a major vote bank of the BJP in Gujarat and the Patel community constitutes about 80 per cent of the population in Gujarat. There is participation of people of Meis community in almost all areas in Gujarat. From big millionaires to agriculture, business, government work and politics, the participation of this community is also seen.

In such a situation, often in every election, political parties in Gujarat play many tricks to attract this community towards themselves. According to a report, there is a long list of crorepati Patels in Gujarat. And when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, an increase of up to 10 times was also seen in the wealth of the people of this community.

In such a situation, since then this community has become a big vote bank of BJP and this time Patidar leader Hardik Patel has also left the Congress party and joined BJP. In such a situation, the Congress party now has the support of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, so that it can attract this community towards itself.

That’s why Congress has made this bet to break into this vote bank of BJP, in which it is talking about changing the name of Narendra Modi Stadium to Sardar Patel. Congress has also promised to provide 10 lakh government jobs in Gujarat in its manifesto. Along with this, schemes like LPG cylinder for Rs 500, Kovid compensation of Rs 4 lakh, free treatment facility up to Rs 10 lakh, loan waiver of farmers up to Rs 3 lakh have been promised.

What is the history of this Narendra Modi stadium in Gujarat, when was the name changed?

Narendra Modi Stadium is located in Motera, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This stadium is the biggest cricket stadium in the world. This stadium is built inside the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, which has a seating capacity of 132,000 spectators. Matches like Cricket Test, ODI, T20 are played in this stadium.

Talking about history, it was constructed in the year 1983. After the new stadium was built in the year 2020, on 24 February 2021, its name was changed from Sardar Patel Stadium to Narendra Modi Stadium. And last when the then US President Donald Trump came to India, the program named ‘Namaste Trump’ was started from this stadium.
